Richard May ~ Biography
Ric May attended, and obtained his undergraduate degree from the
University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1971. After working for a
few years in the transportation industry, he entered law school at
Memphis State University and obtained his law degree in 1975. Ric
then returned to his hometown, Lakeland, Florida, where he joined a
large firm representing those who had been injured or killed through
the negligence of others. After several years in Lakeland, Ric
started his own firm and continued to litigate on behalf of his
clients against negligent defendants. During his time in Lakeland,
approximately seventeen years, Ric was active in numerous civic
organizations, the Florida Bar, and the Academy of Florida Trial
Lawyers.
In 1994, Ric decided to return to East Tennessee, an area Ric longed
to return to after many years in Florida. Ric went into practice
with his long-time friend Ward Whelchel, and continued to represent
injured Plaintiffs in the areas of auto negligence, medical
malpractice, nursing home neglect, products liability and workers’
compensation. He was licensed in Tennessee in 1994, becoming a
member of the Tennessee Bar Association and Tennessee Trial Lawyers
Association. He continues to maintain his law license in Florida
representing clients against negligent defendants.
Ric has been an active member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of
American since 1980.
